Burrito Recall as Warning Issued Over 'Serious Infection'

A range of burritos has been recalled over fears they may contain the bacterium that causes Listeria infections.

The U.S. Food Safety and Inspection Service (FSIS) warned consumers that 144 pounds of ready-to-eat burrito products produced by Jen's Breakfast Burritos

The incident was discovered after routine testing on the products discovered the presence of the bacterium Listeria monocytogenes

The affected products were shipped to "to-go" locations in Washington state.

The packaging for each product consists of a white label with the product name in yellow or red writing.

The FSIS has warned any person who has purchased any of the products not to consume them and either throw it away or return it to the place of purchase.

It also reminds consumers to check their freezers to see if they have stored it for a later date.

Listeria infections can cause life-threatening illness, particularly in high risk individuals, including children, the elderly, and those with compromised immune systems.

The illness is also known to cause miscarriages, still births and premature delivery of a baby in pregnant women.
